Five current menswear fashion trends
London was the fashion hotspot of the world when some of the planet’s hottest buyers, bloggers and fashion reporters descended to celebrate the newest collections to hit the catwalks. If you couldn’t be there, here are some of the fashion trends you need to know about.
Acid yellow
Yellow is not mellow as wardrobes go bright for the sunnier months. Italian brand Iceberg went crazy with the daring shade in everything from two-piece tracksuits and neon trousers to long-sleeve tees and graphic knitwear.
Korean brand Munn and Britain’s Craig Green went acid bright, showcasing slightly padded utilitarian jackets and 8on8, the Chinese brand, also jumped on the bandwagon with lemon co-ords and trench coats.
Slinky satin
Satin has seen skyrocketing popularity in the world of women’s fashion and now it is seeping into menswear too. Charles Jeffrey, the Club Kid, used the shiny fabric in everything from jewel-toned dresses and two-piece suits to floor-length capes, while Bulgaria’s Kiko Kostadinov and UK designer Edward Crutchley showcased it with hammered jockey bomber jackets, headdresses and patterned shirts.
Bowling clever
You might not be ready to join your grandparents for a game just yet, but the bowling top is big news. It might make you think of The Big Lebowski, but it is actually a really versatile addition to your wardrobe, offering a smart solution for the warmer months. The bowling shirt was seen in all sorts of collections, including those from Edward Crutchley and Chalayan which teamed linen tops with city shorts, all in a very minimalist pallet of greys, burnt oranges and whites. Crutchley, meanwhile, when with a louche style covered in interesting floral prints.
Transparent appeal
It is easy to see one of the biggest trends set to hit — or actually, it might not be as transparency is the name of the game. So, whether you opt for a sheer skirt, tracksuit or coats, it is time to focus on what you’re almost not wearing, rather than what you are. This is a great way of showing off your favourite wardrobe essentials underneath, such as your most-loved mens Farah clothes from the likes of ejmenswear.
Cargo pants
Utilitarian styles are big news so think huge pockets and cargo pants — with or without slits in the thigh.
