When a student selects going to a university there is always the option of going away and this brings up the subject of living accommodations. Where the student lives can have a great impact on the quality of the student’s education and also in the development of the student as well.

Pros

Complete Immersion in School Activities

When a student selects university accommodations, that student is totally immersed in the school and its activities. Getting to and from classes is easy and taking advantage of on campus amenities that are aimed at studying becomes much easier. The student has additional time to spend at libraries and study areas because or she does not have to be concerned about getting to off-campus housing which may not be near. Additionally the student has access to activities, events, and clubs that are campus-based. This allows the student to have a high level of social activity with other students who also live on campus, many of which are from other parts of the world. This leads to a better preparedness for the student as they make their way into the real world. Students also get the chance to spend extended time with each other and to have their school friendships extended to friendships outside of school. Many of the best relationships people have are based on their living together at on campus housing.

Structured Environment

On campus housing is part of a structured environment that a university can offer young people. There are proctors and school staff that oversee the comings and goings of the students living on campus, and make sure that they are focused on their school. There is also always people around so students are pushed to conform to campus norms of decency and focus strictly on their education. School activities are plentiful and are supervised by coaches and school staff too.

Safe Environment

Today’s school campuses Place security as a high priority. there are cameras everywhere, trained security that is placed in all important locations around the campus, a strict adherence to curfew and students being where they are supposed to be at all times, and the culture that is very forward thinking about security. If a student is not where he is she is supposed to be, Securities alerted and the student is located. Any suspicious behavior or actions that are contrary to the rules, regulations or Norms of the campus are reported and that student is identify. At that point parents are notified and any appropriate actions are taken. All in all college campuses are some of the safest environments on the planet.

Cons

Too Structured an Environment

Some parents worried that having their kids at on campus housing subjects them to an environment that is too structured, closely looked at by staff and security and some of their freedoms are restricted.

Too Much Like High School

Some parents worry that college campus life is too much like high school and their living at the college dorms does not prepare them enough for real life without this level of structure. For this reason they prefer off-campus housing with a student has two take on more responsibilities.
