Thomas Edinson made 1000 attempts to invent the light bulb, which means that success involves persistence and patience. No one wakes up, and suddenly, they are a pro at something. That’s a big no. Let us talk about chess champions. They don’t become chess champions because they simply are good at it. It takes years and years of failing and taking it on again. They have failed hundreds of times, but they still put life and soul into it. Here are the most significant secrets to becoming a chess grandmaster.

Through professional chess education

With chess, even if you know how to move the pieces and win in a game, you never stop learning. It’s like a big room with many educational books and dictionaries to do with chess. That is why you need a professional teacher’s help right from the beginning or as a kid. There are online chess lessons for kids where your child can learn to play chess during their early developmental stages, which is the most suitable learning stage. Chess professionals always have something to teach you, and to become a grandmaster, you require chess education. So, hire a chess teacher and never stop learning.

Solve more tactics

You don’t need to spend your full-day learning or playing chess. The most important thing is to solve at least 7–10 problems daily. For that, half an hour to an hour is enough. Ideally, you can spend less than five minutes on every issue and less than that to find the lines and variations. Surprisingly, that will result in 70problems solved per week and around 4500 problems solved per year. That is good enough to lay the foundation for solving even more complex chess tactics.

Analyze your game

Every time you play a chess game and lose. Take time to analyze it. Many people prefer only to analyze their wins or not analyze anything at all, which is where they go wrong. Unfortunately, we never seem to learn from other people’s mistakes. For instance, telling a kid more than a 100times to stop poking their finger in the flame never teaches them until they poke it and get burned. Chess is the same. Unless you make a mistake and learn from it, you still have a long way to go. By analyzing your losses, you know where you went wrong and avoid that in your future games.

Engage in competitive chess

When you participate in competitive chess, you meet a better chess opponent than you, and you learn something or two from them. Online chess is good. It helps you learn more and gain more skills. But, you must practice those skills through competitive chess. That is how you get better and concentrate on real face-to-face chess. If you would like to put your chess skills into practice, face to face competitive chess works better.

Study grandmaster chess games

Remember, you are looking forward To becoming a chess grandmaster. There is no better way than to study grandmaster games more than to put yourself in one of the player’s shoes, analyze their games and every move. Learn why each move was made and what you would have done differently. Engage your mind actively when studying those games, and you will master the techniques.

The takeaway

If you wish to become a chess grandmaster, have a teacher/mentor, solve more problems, analyze your games, play competitive chess games, and study more grandmaster games. Most importantly, be positive and have a goal.
