Your laundry room is not one to be ignored and there is a great deal of scope here when it comes to designing the layout and the style of this room. Whilst the laundry room is of course there for functionality, there is no reason why you can’t add some touches which also enhances the style of the room, creating a modern look to be proud of. When you are designing a small laundry, here are some tips which are worth bearing in mind.

Centrepiece

There are going to be 2 main focal points in this room, the first will be the machines and the second will be the laundry trough, and it is the latter which we are going to talk about here.

It is going to be vitally important that you focus on getting the right trough for your individual needs but also one which looks great. There are many troughs which you can choose from in terms of style and materials so make sure that this is where you spend a lot of time.

Laundry sinks aren’t used anywhere near as much as they used to be but it is still a key area of the room and one where you can gain some real style points.

Individual or Joined Up

Most people will look to design the laundry differently from much of the house but you could also look to continue the design from the connecting room, for a more seamless look.

Let’s say for example that your laundry room is connected to the kitchen, as it is more often than not, you could take that style from the kitchen and run it right through to the laundry room, you could even match your laundry taps to the kitchen ones and paint or wallpaper in the same style. Both options have their merits of course, but you’ll have to decide what suits you best, remember that if you keep it the same, then you can’t change one without the other.

Balance

The hardest thing to achieve but the most important thing to remember is the balance between function and style. You may have your heart set on certain shelves but if they are too small for you to accommodate all you need in the laundry then you’ll have to make a concession, and the same thing goes for cupboards or other storage areas. Achieving this balance is possible, but it will take some careful planning.

Taps

There is a wide range of taps to choose from and you will need to ensure that they both look great and that they offer you all that you need in terms of usability. Some styles like laundry mixers work for some but others may opt for a hose feature as well. In terms of style, and assuming you aren’t mimicking the kitchen taps, you need to find something like brushed copper which has that industrial look but still retains style. Options such as shiny chrome just don’t work as well in a room like this, if you do this then the balance between design and function will be out of kilter.

This room can work well on both fronts, invest the time and you can achieve that cute and modern laundry room you’ve been looking for.
