Sky is perhaps one of the biggest names in TV which is world renowned for having an impressive collection of channels and content which is all ready to be watched at the touch of a button.

Watching the weekly shows and sports from the comfort of your own home is a natural way to unwind these days, but this hasn’t always been possible to take with you while exploring new destinations abroad.

Whether you are moving to a new country of residence or are on a long term travelling adventure, it is still a desirable activity to relax with the same content you love no matter where you are in the world. But why is it when you try to watch sky go abroad it all changes?

Geoblocks and pop ups

The globe is cut up in to many regions which are controlled by streaming sites and widely known TV giants. They use coding known largely as geoblocks in order to prevent viewers from other regions gaining access to certain content.

For example, if you were trying to access some content from the UK while you were located in Germany you may well end up with an error message saying that you cannot access the content. This is often down to geoblocks. They are controlled by IP recognition which tells the system whether or not you are accessing the content from within the preset boundary or not. If you are not eligible to watch the required content you will be faced with the all too familiar pop up error message.

Getting around the geoblocks

Learning how to watch sky go abroad doesn’t have to be a headache and can easily be done by looking at vpns.

Vpns, or virtual private networks, may come across like a strange solution but they definitely have a good thing going for getting around geoblocks. Aside from being primarily used for security reasons, vpns also have the benefit of having servers located throughout many countries.

So why does this help? Since geoblocks work by picking up on IP addresses from the viewers in order to grant or prevent access to online content, then a way around the geoblocks is to affectively move locations. This is the exact concept behind the vpn technique.

Many users sign up to vpns purely to use this function which means that you can suddenly gain access to a whole new world of content with very little effort on your part.

The idea is that when you start up your session through your vpn service provider, you select the server that you wish to connect to the Internet through. This is the game changing point. By selecting a different server you will be allocated a different IP address which matches the location the server is based. To simplify, this means is you connect to a server based in France you will get a French IP address and so on through the rest of the world.
